THE OPEN MIND;  This bronze sculpture is a sensitive and insightful portrait of a young child on the threshold of the learning experience...engrossed in a book. To carry the message of innocence and freshness and openness, the artist has created a “Learning Wall” which is inscribed with geometric shapes, as well as the names of Newton, Copernicus, Galileo and Einstein. Clearly, the meaning is “from the book, up the steps of learning, into “The Open Mind.”

The sculpture speaks to the dedication of mature, serious-thinking adults, be they parents, teachers, librarians, etc. and their responsibility to fill the young mind with all that is valuable and worthwhile to the growing child.  Though it would surely grace any home, it might also be considered as a gift to an institution of learning or a library.  Bearing an engraved plate with the donor’s name, it would represent that donor’s devotion to the high ideals of education and learning.
